Today is my WordPress anniversary! I’m not entirely sure how many years ago I started running this blog, but I am definitely proud of how far it has come. While I find myself with less words to write, I am thankful for an open yet safe space where I can share and relieve my mind.

This week of work has sped by! April has always been a ‘nothing’ month for me. In education days it was the month of Easter break and revision for exams, however now it holds no significance. Work life remains work life. As April comes to a close I wonder what the month of May will bring!

I was speaking to my cousin recently about my studies and the following phrase came up in conversation:

‘We’re all proud of you.’

This was such a genuine and unexpected surprise, and a lovely one at that. Never have I thought in my 3.5 years of studying that other people would be proud of my achievements and my efforts in education, so it was really encouraging to hear those words.

Usually when I come home for the holidays people will ask me how my studies are going and I will answer simply and succinctly. However when my cousin asked me she delved a little deeper and took interest in my studies, and in my upcoming dissertation.  Having been through the university system herself, she knows the struggles of being a student and the workload that comes with it.

I really appreciate these words from my cousin and I will cherish them when I feel stressed and under pressure.

I attended a close friend’s graduation yesterday and a few thoughts popped into my mind.

Firstly, I was so filled with friend pride. This is different from parental pride or even familial pride; it was quite interesting. I knew the amount of effort she put into her studies so to see them come to fruition in her graduation was so satisfying! I am proud of her achievements and what she has accomplished, and wish her all the best in the future.

Secondly, it encouraged me to work harder in my own studies. I am in the last year of my university and up till now I have still only been putting in 60/70% effort maximum. I know that I want to attend my own graduation in July and to experience that same joy, and also for my family to be proud of me.

Thirdly, I felt a little older and a little wiser. Graduating from university is a big step in a young adult’s life, and often it is a great milestone before entering the workplace. Graduating with an undergraduate degree is often the end of a person’s studying days, it is like the end of an era. It signifies a move onto bigger and better things.

Hopefully keeping these things in mind will motivate me to work harder in my final year, and to envision my very own graduation day.
